Wow, another week has come and gone.
First of all, congratulations to Charlene and Nathan and
family! I'm glad to hear that things seemed to go well.
So, you say you got the shower fixed? The shower was
broken? I didn't know that...What was wrong with it?
Well, things are going well here in Weslaco. Unfortunately
we didn't have the baptism with Nora and her son Edgar
this last week like we were hoping to. However, Nora and
Ovidio did get their marriage license! We're hoping that
this next week they'll get married.
We've been teaching alot of great people, and we had
about 5 investigators come to church yesterday, which
was super exciting. Well, now for the details with
investigators.
Nora and Ovidio - Waiting for them to get married so we
can baptize her and her kid. We had dinner with them this
last week and a lesson.
Martha - Well, unfortunately we weren't able to meet with
her this last week, and she didn't come to church. We'll
keep trying to find her, so, nothing new there...
We still can't find Asusena, Yoshio and Gustavo... oh
well. They've got our number and they know where the
church is, we'll hope to see them there soon...
Jason - Well, we tracted into Jason a while ago. He's a
24 guy, whose dad is apparantly a less-active member. We
met with him for the first time in about a month on
Friday. He asked when we could come back, and when church
was, and to give him a reminder call about church that
morning. Well, he came to church and seemed to enjoy it.
He told us to call him today to set a time when we can go
back and teach him more. We're looking forward to that.
Don, Brittany, and Bridgette - Well, Don is the father/uncle
of the Lozano/Garcia kids that we baptized a few weeks back.
He really seems to enjoy us coming by, and is always very
generous when we come by. Brittany and Bridgette are two of
his teenage daughters. They've started listening to the
lessons, and they came to church yesterday! Don still
hasn't come, but we'll get him there...
Gustavo - We found Gustavo when we went to visit Freddy and
Vanessa. He's Freddy's brother-in-law. We've now taught him
a couple times, and he's been reading in the Book of Mormon.
However, he's very catholic, but thinks that all churches
are good (seems to be the case often here).
Anyway, there's a quick summary of what's going on here.
I hope this email finds you all safe and well. You are
all in my prayers.

Well, another week has come and gone...crazy!
Sorry this is a day late - the library and college were
closed for Martin Luther King Jr. day.
I'll be praying for you Charlene and Nate with the expected
birth this Friday. Have you guys decided on a name?
I am sorry to hear that things at the White's home haven't
improved too much, you too are in my prayers.
The work is continuing on. We had a pretty good week last
week. The biggest news is that Nora and Ovidio announced
that they are going to be getting married! I'm super
excited for them! (I haven't talked too much about them
lately for lack of progress), But, this week, we should
be having a baptismal service for Nora and her kid Edgar.
How great of a work. It's a blessing to be a part of this
great and marvelous work.
We still can't find Asusena, Yoshio, and Gustavo, but
Hermana Campos thinks that she may be able to track them
down. We're definitely praying that we can find them.
Martha came to all three hours of church on Sunday, and
seemed to enjoy it. We're still working on setting a
baptismal date with her...she's getting alot closer!
Well, transfers are a week from tomorrow. I'm like 95%
sure I'm staying here in Weslaco, and if I'm here for next
transfer, I'll for sure be here for the transfer after that
because Elder Brown goes home after next transfer, and
President Miller doesn't like to "whitewash" areas (both
missionaries being replaced.) I feel like there's a lot
more that I can do here, and we're super excited to keep
working together.
We found a girl named Bianca this last week, and she
committed to reading in the Book of Mormon. We went by
last night to see how her reading went, and she had
actually read! She told her aunt that she was talking to
the Mormon missionaries, and she said her aunt got really
mad at her. Bianca didn't really care, and wants to keep
reading in the Book of Mormon and find out what happens
next (she just got done with Nephi killing Laban and
getting the plates).
Things are definitely going well, and I am excited to take
part in this work.
I think of you all frequently.
¡Portense bien! :)

Hello all!
Well, on Saturday we had three baptisms. I'll be sending a
picture home in the mail. The service was great, and on
Sunday the three girls were confirmed. The father came to
the baptisms, and seemed to enjoy it, and was planning to
come to church, but something apparently came up.
We'll continue working with the family to try to get the
rest of the family to become members of the church. We're
making some good progress though!
However, on Saturday, we lost contact with Asusena, Yoshio,
and Gustavo. Their number is no longer working, and they
were kicked out of the house where they are staying.
We are praying that we'll be able to find them, but for
now, we're not sure what happened.
We taught Martha this last week. She didn't make it to
church on Sunday unfortunately, but we'll continue to
work with her. She still hasn't gotten rid of her
boy-friend. She knows she either needs to get married to
him, or kick him out. She's leaning towards kicking him
out, but is having a hard time doing it.
We had a pretty slow week this last week, other than the
baptisms. We spent most of the days tracting all day
long. We've found a few good potential investigators, but
haven't had a chance to really meet with them yet.
However, it's nice to know that "the work of God will go
forth boldy, nobly and independent...until the great
Jehovah shall say the work is done." He definitely has his
hand in the work. Of that I'm positive.
Well, I'm three souls closer to my goal of baptizing all
of Texas :) It may be a stretch but I think I can still
make it.
The work is hard, but must go on.
I love you all!
You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Hello All-
Happy New Years! I hope that it was great for all of you.
I celebrated it by being deep asleep when midnight came
around.
On New Years Eve there was a huge police chase down here.
The person drove into Wal-mart (maybe 2-3 minutes from our
place). They had police helicopters out, and the SWAT team
etc. Crazy stuff! I'm sure you can find it online.
The biggest news this week is that we should have a
baptism on Saturday, I'll send pictures next week. It's
the Garcia and Lozano kids. We still have a little bit to
teach them, but they've been going to church for several
months now, so that's been awesome. The kids love us a
ton, and always want us to stay and hang out with them.
Well, time to talk about the investigators.
Martha- Well, our lessons were crazy with her this week.
On Friday, we were over there, talking in her garage, and
she asked us if she could get a blessing of comfort (after
we had offered it). We obliged, but just as we were about
her boyfriend came storming in, yelling, and all mad at
us. I didn't understand everything he was saying because
he was yelling in Spanish, and the Spirit definitely
wasn't there, but I caught several things. He was sick of
us 'always' being there. He also said that he was going
to leave the room for a couple minutes, and if we hadn't
left, there was going to be problems... We left. We
haven't had the opportunity to give her a blessing, and
we're not sure exactly what happened. Martha stood up for
us, and for us and was telling him that it was her life,
and her house, that he has no right to say anything to us
about it.
Asusena, Yoshio, Gustavo - Well, Asusena is living in a
room on top of her boss' house. The boss is a crazy
Catholic lady that is super mean to us. We were up
there, and she freaked out and told us to leave, and told
Asusena that she couldn't talk to us there, or outside.
We left, and Asusena, Yoshio, and Gustavo came with us
on a walk to a park, where we had a lesson. The kids
consistently come to church, and Asusena wants to, but
her boss won't let her take ANY time off. Anyway, yeah,
there's been a lot of frustration there lately, but God
will provide a way.
I am continuing to grow and learn. It's a trying
experience, but it's been great thus far.
I love you all!
Con amor,
Elder Meservy
