Well, transfers were this last week, and guess what I am now...

Weslaco. Still. I'm actually excited to be able to work here for
the next little while still.

Well, it sounds like things have been going well at home. That
new playset sounds like quite the toy. I'm sure the grandkids
love it. I guess I'll have to see a picture of it to get a better idea
of what it really looks like, etc.

Dad, you were asking about the drug trafficking on the border,
and if I hear much about it. I've heard bits and pieces, but
haven't been affected in any way by it. I do live in a little bit of
a ghetto, well, not my apartments as much as down the street,
but I've never felt danger. I have seen my fair share of people
smoking pot, etc. About the swine flu, I've heard a little bit here
and there about it, but haven't gotten sick.

Congratulations to both Dan and Laurie on graduating this
last week! Woohoo! I'm sure it went well. I wish I could've
been there to see it, but, I'm doing bigger and better things
right now.

That diary sounds really interesting that you got a hold of, mom.
I have actually been really interested in family history since
I've been out here on the mission. Was it Thomas Cottam
that was down in the colonies in Mexico? Anyway, I've been
interested in family history a lot more than I was, and have
spent time trying to learn more of the five generation chart.

Grandma's letter and check did arrive, and I'll be responding to
that today. So, a letter will be in the mail. Tell her thank you for
me.

Well, the work here has been good. We're working with a lady
named Leticia. She just got married a couple weeks ago to a
recent convert from Peru, he was visiting our ward, and
introduced us to Leticia. We've had a couple of lessons with
her, and she is really excited about the gospel, and knows it's
true. How wonderful that is!

I've also gotten close to a recent convert family from the
English ward. They're a funny family, and they love having
the missionaries over. We go over most Sunday nights.

Well, I'm not thinking of too much more that I'm wanting to
say, or that is new that I should talk about. Know that I love
you all, and keep you in my prayers.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.

Monday, April 20th

Well, here we are in Weslaco.

I can't believe it. Another week has come and gone! How wild!
It's been awesome though. We had a pretty good week.

The weather, again, has been really hot and humid. I guess
that's what you get when you're down in South Texas. It
sounds like you all had snow. That's nuts! Some day I'll see
snow again, but it won't be for quite a while, that's for sure.

So, this week, we started teaching a couple new families.
There seems to be quite a bit of potential, we'll see how it
goes though. It's awesome to be a part of the work here in the
Lord's vineyard.

Martha was out of town this last week, so we'll work with her
this week. Her baptismal date is for May. So, we'll keep
working with her.

This Wednesday is transfers. Hopefully I'll be here in Weslaco,
but who knows... I've loved my time here, but I'll go wherever
I'm needed.

Less than three weeks and it's Mother's Day. You know what
that means! :) Anyway, I've loved all the letters. Keep them
coming, and if they haven't been coming from you, start them
coming.

Congratulations to Dan and Laurie on graduating! That's
super exciting. That just mean they'll have a little time to
write me now. :)

Well, I love you all, the letters are definitely wonderful, and
I'm always excited to receive them.

Thank you for all you all do for me.

Con amor,
Elder Meservy

Letter from Monday, April 13, 2009

It's a hot day today here in Texas. I guess that'll be the norm
though. This email will have responses to several questions, as
well as other important events from this past week.

So, Elder Andrews and I have been together for 5 weeks or so
now. We've had a lot of fun working together. He's Senior
Companion, but we have both agreed that the title of Senior
Companion really doesn't mean too much.

Well, I haven't heard too much from Monique lately, I get a fairly
short letter about once a week or so. It's good to hear from her
though. She seems to be enjoying the MTC, and it sounds like
she's getting along with her companions.

This week has been pretty good. One of the major highlights is
that we set a baptismal date with Martha! We've been working
with her since I got here, and she finally set a baptismal date!
We're also working with some Less-Active families, and one of
them came to church yesterday, which was really exciting to see.

Last night, we had an Easter celebration up at Ovidio's and
Nora's. It was a lot of fun. A quick story from that- I was
jumping on the tramp, and I did a backflip, and then did
another half, and landed on my back on the bar, and then
slid down onto my head. But no worries, all is well. I'm a little
sore, but nothing that I can't get over. And, I got pictures of it,
which makes it all better!

Anyway, we've found a lot of good potentials, and a few really
good new investigators.

The work continues to roll forward. Crazy thought...I call home
in less than a month! It crept up on me pretty quick. Well, I'll
try to send a few pictures home this week via snail-mail.

Well, I send you all my love from Texas!

Con amor,
Elder Meservy

3 Nephi 12:10-12 - This has become a new favorite of mine.

Monday, April 6, 2009

Conference was awesome! It's far better than Christmas as a
missionary. However, the satellite didn't work for Priesthood
Session for some reason, so I was unfortunately not able to
watch that as I had hoped to. I guess I can always read it in the
ensign. But, either way, it was an awesome experience. What
an amazing day and age in which we live.

Well, this last week it's been pretty hot still. We had a packed
week with finding, interviews, teaching, and conference. How
great it is to be a servant of the Lord in this day and age.

I've now hit 7 months out here, that's 5 months in the field.
It's crazy, I feel old, but at the same time, I feel so young in
the mission. This past week seemed to just fly by, which was
good. It seems as though time is speeding up. Transfers are in
just over 2 weeks, so, I'll be here at least until then.

There really isn't too much that's new to report. We are
continually working with people, trying to find, and help them
to understand the gospel, and the role that it can play in their
lives.

I love you all, and thought of you all a lot during conference
weekend. I'm 1/2 done with conferences on the mission. That's
a crazy thought too.

Well, I love you all.
Con amor,
Elder Meservy
